Science Center
Mobius is where
science becomes real world experience, accessible to every family in the Inland
Northwest and beyond. The Mobius organization was formed in January 2005 by the
merger of Inland Northwest Science and Technology
Center and the Children's Museum of Spokane. In
fall 2005 Mobius achieved the first phase of
its vision, an interactive children's museum with a science bend in River Park Square,
downtown Spokane.
A capital campaign to finance construction of phase
two, the Mobius Science Center, a world-class science and technology center is now
underway.
Mobius Science Center at Michael Anderson Plaza will be home to 53,000 square feet of science,
technology, and entertainment. The Science Center will inspire science
learning, set in stimulating, interactive, and experiential environments. The
facility will also include a
state-of-the-art, IMAX Theater.
Mobius Science Center
exhibits will reflect the region's natural and technological resources and
showcase the best of science from the Inland Northwest and around the world. The
Science Center will also feature special exhibits that change often to keep
visitors coming back. Through hands-on experiences, visitors will learn about
human inventions and innovations, life processes and life cycles of living
things, products, research, and more. Mobius
Science Center will give kids and people of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures
the opportunity to see and experience how
science works and understand its relevance to our lives every day. "Come to
play – end up learning." Jobs,
manufacturing, and science research are being exported at an alarming rate. Our
country must do a better job of educating our children in math and science. In Washington, half of our
high school students did not pass the science and math WASL. Mobius Science Center hopes to inspire our
next generation to study and explore careers in science, math, technology and
engineering. For our competitiveness as
a region and nation, the time is now to bring science and technology innovation
home. Mobius Science Center
will be a significant, new, regional attraction and amenity for school groups,
families, visitors and relocating companies. As industry leaders, educators, professors, and researchers work
together on exhibit ideas, Mobius is already being a catalyst for systemic
change in education.
