Airplay
This lesson assists students' discovery of the scientific characteristics of air, the movement of air, air pressure changes, and how air can be used for both work and play. Utilizing a fun, interactive approach to facilitate student understanding of what air is, how it works, and what it can do, this lesson includes both presentation-style teaching (direct instruction) as well as stations for students to investigate educational products.
Science concepts for this lesson include:
- Air is a gas, is made up of molecules, is made of matter, and takes up space.
- Air moves from high to low pressure.
- Energy from the sun creates the natural movement of air
- Movement of air from high to low pressure is called wind
Our outreach program, Mobius-in-Motion, brings hands-on science lessons right into the learning environments of students. Each presentation is designed to help support current Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (the EALRs) and was created by a certified science teacher specifically for Mobius Kids. Every lesson includes a topic introduction, hands-on exploration opportunities, an informational page for students to share with care-givers ("what I learned today"), and activity suggestions for related learning extensions. Additionally, each student also receives a ticket to Mobius Kids, in an effort to encourage continued family involvement in our students' educational development.
